Session Formats

Three ways to spend
time with what matters.

Each Stoneground session format is designed for a different kind of engagement with retirement-related reading — from a single afternoon to a full day, and from a one-time visit to a recurring annual subscription.

Our Approach

Reading together. Understanding separately.

Every Stoneground session is built around the same principle: publicly available material, read together, discussed in a facilitated setting, with no advice on what to do next. The format varies — a single afternoon, four sessions across a year, or a full day away — but the underlying approach does not.

Facilitators follow a structured guide. Materials are circulated in advance where the format allows. Discussions are kept focused and open. Participants are encouraged to bring their own questions, and those questions are addressed in the room — not deferred to a follow-up service.

Session 01

EPF Statement Reading Workshop

A half-day workshop that walks attendees through their own Malaysian EPF statement — what each column means, how contributions are recorded, and how to access statements directly from the EPF's own portal. The session uses publicly available materials and a live demonstration of the EPF website projected at the front of the room.

Attendees are encouraged to read their own statements with the team's guidance. No copies of personal statements are collected or retained by Stoneground. The workshop does not include advice on contributions, withdrawals, or the use of EPF balances in any form. Suitable for Malaysian workers at any stage of their career.

  • Column-by-column walkthrough of a standard EPF statement
  • Live screen demonstration of the EPF portal
  • Q&A time built into the session structure
  • Printed reference guide for participants to keep
  • No financial advice; no product recommendations

How a session runs

2

Session 02

Quarterly Reading & Discussion Series

A quarterly afternoon series in which the Stoneground team selects a single publicly available reading on retirement preparation and hosts a facilitated discussion. Past selections have included chapters from Malaysian government primers, internationally recognised books on household finance literacy, and articles from public-interest publications.

Attendees receive a copy of the reading before the session date and a printed discussion guide on arrival. Discussions are facilitator-led and consensus-friendly. Personal advice is not given. An annual subscription covers all four quarterly sessions. Suitable for adults who engage well in conversation and who benefit from a recurring structure.

  • Four sessions per year, one per quarter
  • Reading sent in advance of each session
  • Printed discussion guide on arrival
  • Facilitated group discussion, consensus-friendly
  • Different reading selected for each quarter

What each session involves

2

3

Session 03

Annual Reading Retreat

A single full-day retreat held once a year at an off-site venue. The day includes three reading sessions with facilitated discussions between them, and closes with each participant writing a short personal reflection note. Meals are included. Group size is limited.

The retreat is educational and reflective in design rather than advisory. It is well suited to adults preparing for retirement within the next five years who wish to spend a full day on the subject in a focused, small-group setting away from their usual environment. Past participants have noted the value of uninterrupted time with the material and the structured space for reflection.

  • Full day — morning to late afternoon
  • Three reading sessions with breaks and discussion
  • Meals included (breakfast and lunch)
  • Off-site venue, accessible from Johor Bahru
  • Closing personal reflection note (kept by participant)

How the day is structured

1

Morning: first reading session; breakfast; opening discussion

2

Late morning: second reading session; facilitated conversation

3

After lunch: third reading session; broader discussion
